Section outline

  • Kia ora Year 7s, this week is going to be somewhat 'mix-and-match' depending on what we would like to do.

    This will be part one of a on/off focus on mapping - reading maps and the locations on them - as well as a general focus on the various population centres in New Zealand. A lot of class discussions, bolstered by a competitive speed mapping activity that will require careful attention and a strong focus on reading/writing in order to complete the activity before the end of the lesson.

    Success Criteria: I can/have...

    • I can point out the various location centres in New Zealand and recall a few key facts about them.
    • I can successfully complete the speed mapping activity that requires careful global awareness

    Activities:

    1. Slideshow & Whiteboard Brainstorming - What is a map? How does it help aid transport? [Literacy]
    2. Population Centres - Auckland, Wellington, Queenstown [Reading - Printouts, Discussion, some mention of Numeracy]
    3. Speed Mapping Activity [Literacy]

    Please note - very short week due to Athletics/Tabloids Day + various in-school events, may have to move parts into next week.
