  • Week 1: Introduction and Foundations

    Objective: Introduce the three dance genres and foundational techniques.

    EXPLORE / TŪHURA learning intentions:

    • We are EXPLORING..movement with a developing awareness of the dance elements of body, space, time, energy, and relationships.
    • We are EXPLORING...key features of the dance genre or style.

    Activities:

    • Warm-up and stretching (15 minutes)
    • Introduction to jazz dance basics (20 minutes)
    • Learn the first section of "Smooth Criminal" choreography (25 minutes)
    • Introduction to musical theatre dance basics (20 minutes)
    • Learn the first section of "Footloose" choreography (25 minutes)
    • Introduction to hip hop dance basics (15 minutes)
    • Learn the first section of "Salute" choreography (20 minutes)

    At Home Practice:

    • Practice the first sections of all three dances (15 minutes each).
    • Music and videos for practice are available on Google Classroom.
