Section outline

  • Kia ora, there will be an interruption this week due to teacher only day - you guys will lose one lesson, which is annoying to the overall plan of exploring tourism but fine. This week will have an explicit NZ focus - exploring Aotearoa's tourist relationship with the world, as well as its direct relationship with China and how China has increasingly become an irreplaceable part of NZ's tourist economy. If there is time, we will also look at overtourism as part of winding down our look at the impact of the global tourist economy - what happens when there is simply too much happening in the world?

    Success Criteria: I can/have...

    • I can define NZ's relationship with tourism
    • I can explain why China has increasingly become centred in NZ's tourism economy
    • Optional: I can clearly define overtourism's impact on certain locations

    Activities:

    1. NZ Tourism - in class discussions + slideshow
    2. Aotearoa & China - Worksheet
    3. If time: Overtourism

    Follow Up Tasks:
Tourism & the UN - tying all this global cooperation together
