Big Idea: NZ Road Trip: Cape Reinga to Bluff
Kia ora Y7. In week 4, you start travelling around New Zealand. You need to create an itinerary, choosing places of interest from ‘Bluff to Cape Reinga.’ Each week, you will identify a place/activity en-route for your blog writing. We will learn about narrative travel writing/blog writing this week. You will find a lot of information on this under resources.
To create an interesting story, the writer needs to show not tell the reader about people, places, and things they are writing about. Showing creates mental pictures in the reader’s mind. When readers get a clear picture, they are more engaged in the writer’s story.
Travel writing: Key Features
There are many key features of this type of writing:
Show not tell (Use five senses)
People and places are described in detail
The writer's thoughts and feelings about the place are made clear
Language is descriptive and imaginative
Travel writing is usually written in the 1st person. (I, me, myself & mine etc.)
