    Activities:

    -Reading about NZ nurse 'Edith Mcleod' and her contribution to the First World War servicemen

    -Convince your parents you should go to war (see below activity and do as per your group requirement)

    "THE MEN NEED YOU

    You are Edith McLeod. Seeing the men go off to war, your kind and caring nature urges you to help these brave soldiers with the wounds they will sustain on the battlefield. One obstacle stands in your way.

    Your parents will never agree to you enrolling to be a nurse, putting your life on the line for others. The impact that you would have on the Masterton community if you stayed would be massive, and we cannot afford to lose." such a superb Nurse to war. 

    Can you convince your loving parents that you need to be in Belgium? That you could save hundreds of lives on the battlefields in Europe and the Middle East? Or do you think that Masterton has a greater need during the war?"

    Group 1: Write your story in about 250 words. Make sure you use correct punctuation, at least three precise words and simple sentences.

    Group 2: Write your story in about 350 words. Make sure you use correct punctuation, at least five precise words and mixed length sentences.

    Group 3: Write your story in about 450 words. Make sure you use correct punctuation, precise words, variety of sentences, SEXY/PEEL paragraphs and persuasive language.

    Group 4: Write your story in about 500 words. Make sure you use consistently correct punctuation, precise words, compound & complex sentences, TEXAS paragraphs and persuasive language.
