Section outline

  • FOCUS / ARONGA

    FOCUS / ARONGA learning intentions:

    • We are FOCUSING on the Material world by investigating Elements, compounds and Mixtures that can be involved in Chemical warfare
    • We are FOCUSING the structure of atoms and how this structure enables other elements to combine to make a new compound
    • We are FOCUSING Acids and bases by investigating their reactivity with metals, and non metals

Learning Intentions :   We are learning to (WALT)...

    • Distinguish between physical and chemical changes
    • Identify and describe the different sub atomic particles
    • Define the term element  and compound
    • Describe the structure of the periodic table
    • Describe the roles of valence electrons in chemical reactions
    • Write word equations for chemical reactions
    • Determine the number of atoms in a compound, given its chemical formula
    • Calculate the number of atoms in a compound given its chemical formula
    • Identify the different elements and compounds that can be used in chemical warfare
    • Research traditional medieval weapons and how they were used
    • Describe the forces involved in using a traditional medieval weapon
    • Success Criteria: I can/have...
    • Correctly identify and describe the difference between chemical and physical reactions
    • Tabulate the differences between the 3 subatomic particles
    • Correctly define and describe the differences between an element and a compound
    • Correctly explain the structure of the periodic table
    • Using the valence electrons explain using word equations why various elements combine to form new compounds
    • Correctly calculate the number of atoms found in compounds
    • Research chemical warfare
    • Research medieval weapons
    • Describe the different forces involved in using a medieval weapon
