    'Think Global, Act Local'

Big ideas: This term we will be focussing on solving global issues such as climate change, population growth at a local level.  We will be learning about how community gardens foster sustainable communities and responsible consumption (UN SDG 11 & 12).  We will also be learning about social enterprise and possibly looking at how growing food can be a lucrative business.

    EXPLORE / TŪHURA

    EXPLORE / TŪHURA learning intentions:

    • We are EXPLORING.. the skills used by scientists when investigating.
    • We are EXPLORING...Life Processes by classifying and organising organisms based on the structural features.

    Success Criteria:  I can/have...

    • describe briefly the process of photosythesis as a mini factory (with diagrams)
    • Identify the important leaf structures that are involved in photosynthesis - Leaf lamina, choloroplast, stomata, xylem, phloem.
    • draw analogies between the Xylem, Phloem and the circulatory system of the human body.

    Activities:

    1. Watch the various related videos - See Edpuzzle tasks assigned through Google Classroom
    2. Practical activities in the Science lab and garden
    3. Observations for Week 6.
      1. Observe the process of photosynthesis on a leaf - bubbles forming on a leaf (oxygen)
      2. Observe and make notes of tests for photosynthesis.
    4. Reading activity - See Google classroom.
    5. Draw and label various leaf shapes
    6. Answer the questions from Google classroom in your Science books..

Reading for Experts: Please see Google classroom for this task.  If you are not on Reading Plus you are expected to use the resource from this folder.

Education Perfect: See assigned task from Week 5 - This must be completed during Week 6
