TERM 3 WEEK 3
Success Criteria: I can/have...
- Continue geometric patterns and predict what is happening
- Use formulae and variables to write rules that describe patterns
Activities:
- What are geometric patterns?
- Draw what you think a simple geometric pattern would look like. Pay attention to the word pattern. Can it be continued?
- Teacher explanation of a geometric pattern of matchsticks and drawing the next member of the pattern.
- Can you predict the number of matches required for the next pattern without drawing it?
- Can you notice a rule it is following?
- Using the rule to predict the number of matches
- Writing the rule for the nth term
- Attempt the practice questions
Homework:
Maths buddy
EXPLORE / TŪHURA learning intentions:
- We are EXPLORING recognising algebraic vocabulary and conventions
- We are EXPLORING finding a rule to describe any member of a sequential pattern
- We are EXPLORING using a rule to make predictions
- We are EXPLORING writing a rule for the nth term
