Section outline

  • FOCUS / ARONGA

    FOCUS / ARONGA learning intentions:

    • We are FOCUSING on building key comprehension skills that can deepen our understanding of a text
    • We are FOCUSING achieving our learning targets by collaborating in our Literature Circle group
    • We are FOCUSING challenging each to think critically through open ended questions and discussions

    Success Criteria: I can/have...

    • completed my Literature Circle Responsibility Sheet on time
    • shared my response with the group and generated further discussions arising from my response
    • been an upholder of pono, ako, wānanga and awhinatanga and I can  explain how I show these values in Literature Circle.

    Activities and Expectations:

    1. Make a prediction of the story - study the front cover and the blurb of the text and write a paragraph predicting the story. You must justify/explain why you think so.
    2. Discussion Director in consultation with the group, completes the Literature Circle Organisation Sheet (this should be done quickly and without fuss).
    3. All members must complete the required reading and write their responses to the responsibility sheet designated to them.
    4. If you are confused about the responsibility or the task, consult your group members well before the meeting session. Excuses on the meeting day, will disrupt discussions.
    5. All members must be ready for their book club meeting.
    6. All members must bring their book and completed task to every meeting session.
    7. DO NOT read forward! You may be very tempted to read on but doing so will defeat the purpose of working together! Remember, it's not all about finishing the book but developing good reading skills. This can only happen if every member sticks to the expectations.
    8. Have fun being in charge of your learning!

    Homework:
