Learning Intentions
- To experience market trading and to introduce market types, prices, S&D, wealth, . . . 'Economics'
- To explore the pros & cons / effects of specific markets (eg shares) on individuals, companies & countries.
- To learn to use a Question Quadrant to generate inquiry questions that we might want to answer.
Success Criteria- Can explain the nature of markets and of one specific market, eg shares, and understand media reports.
- Can discuss the moral and economic issues in trading in shares, houses, commodities, etc.
Trading shares on the NZ Share MarketTo introduce Economics and Markets (and to have some fun after the NCEA Assessment), some of you might like to experience analysing the capital markets, international events, and business / industry changes. Generating Questions
Students from MHJC who are now at senior college, say that it's important to know how to ask questions to get the help they need and to guide their research.
For the next two weeks, we'll learn to use the 'Question Quadrant' to generate different types of question from news articles.

Reading comprehension questions have the answer in the story, photo, video
Research questions - we might be able to find the answers
Speculation (imagination) questions about what might be (related to the text, photo, video.
Inquiry (philosophical) questions about ethics, logic, metaphysics, epistemology, aesthetics.
Ethics - should people be allowed to buy and sell anything?
Logic - If people act in their own interest, will they ever donate to charity?
Metaphysics - how do people know what something is worth?
Epistomology - how do you know something?
