    Nau mai, hoki mai ki te kura! (Welcome back to school!)

    Kia Ora Y9. We will continue with our context ‘Your Vote, Your Future.’ Last term, you all formed your political parties and chose your party leaders. This week, we have whanau election and kids voting. See the attached PPT to complete this week's tasks. 

    Also this is 'KINDNESS WEEK.' There will be many activities held within our whanau as well as at school level including the Pink Shirt Day on Friday. 

    Remember to have your reading books with you in all English sessions. We are also learning 'Persuasive Writing’ this week. 

    Big Idea: ‘Your Vote, Your Future.’

    Activities: 

    -Completing Political Party tasks for the week.

    -Participating in the whanau elections and kids voting for NZ elections.

    -Practicing ‘Persuasive Writing.’

    Success Criteria: (I can)

    -understand how leadership is acquired in New Zealand by studying about the political parties and their leaders

    -compare and contrast the policies of different political parties of New Zealand for 2020 Election to understand their positioning on Environment, Referendums and Closed Borders 

    -think critically about texts with understanding & confidence and recognise, understand and consider how texts are constructed for a range of purposes, audiences and situations

    -construct texts (delivering speeches, debates, making posters, writing manifesto and political statements) that demonstrate an understanding of purpose and audience through deliberate choice of content, language, and text form and can seek  feedback to make changes to texts to improve clarity, meaning, and effect

    -use a wide range of verbal & written language features and an increasing range of vocabulary to communicate precise meaning & effect, to sustain interest and to achieve a sense of coherence when constructing texts
