    FOCUS / ARONGA learning intentions:

    • We are FOCUSING… use a range of mental strategies to develop part-whole thinking skills in order to solve multiplication and division problems.
    • We are FOCUSING… use rounding & compensation mental strategy to develop the confidence and mental skills to solve multiplication problems.
    • We are FOCUSING… use algorithm (column method) to solve multiplication problems with whole numbers and decimals
    • We are FOCUSING... use scientific notation to express basic numerals in power of ten and vice versa


    Success Criteria: I can/have...

    • use algorithm (column method) to solve multiplication problems with 2- to 3-digit numbers
    • solve multiplication problems using basic fact knowledge; e.g. times table
    • mentally solve multiplication problems by selectively using a range of 3 strategies: C&P, R&C, PV
    • (extra for expert) multiplication with variables, and scientific notation using power of ten
    • use times table facts to solve division, in mentally chunking big dividend into small numbers
