    MHJC Learning Framework Step:

    FOCUS / ARONGA

    FOCUS / ARONGA learning intentions:

    • We are FOCUSING... on simplifying mathematical expressions or equations with variables, such as algebraic indices with exponential powers.
    PLAN & DO / WHAKAMAHI

PLAN & DO / WHAKAMAHI learning intentions:

    • We are PLANNING... so that we canpractise and apply times table facts to simplify fractions.
    • We are PLANNING... so that we canpractise and apply times table facts to convert improper fractions to mixed numbers, and vice versa.

    Success Criteria: Students can/have...

    • define what fractions are and show their understanding of fraction concepts using real world scenarios
    • use times-table or multiplication facts to simplify fractions
    • identify what proper and improper fractions are
    • convert improper fractions to mixed numbers, and vice versa
    • simplify algebraic indices with exponential powers in multiplication and division of variables, and also exponential power outside brackets

    Activities:

    • Quick Quiz (maintenance) foci:  Algebra indices, Fractions simplify fractions
    • Maths Buddy focus learning task and maintenance exercise
    • Catch up & review learning tasks from previous weeks
    • (extra for experts) Otago maths review, and Mathex practice

    Resources:

    Homework:
