    • We are FOCUSING… on using place-value partitioning (chunking) mental strategy to develop the confidence and mental skills to solve division problems.
    • We are FOCUSING… on using long/short division working strategy to develop the confidence and computational skills to solve division problems, including those with remainders.
    • We are FOCUSING... on simplifying mathematical expressions or equations with variables, such as adding / subtracting like terms.
    • We are FOCUSING... on simplifying mathematical expressions or equations with variables, such as expanding (multiplying) simple expressions with brackets.
    • We are FOCUSING... on simplifying mathematical expressions or equations with variables, such as algebraic indices with exponential powers.


    Success Criteria: Students can/have...

    • use long/short (column method) working strategy to solve multiplication problems
    • solve division problems using basic fact knowledge; e.g. times table
    • use long/short (column method) working strategy to solve multiplication problems with remainders
    • multiply algebraic expressions with variables, including expansion of brackets
    • simplify algebraic indices with exponential powers in multiplication and division of variables, and also exponential power outside brackets
