  • Context:


    * Due to the Covid-19 Alert (Level 2), classes remain active via distant learning online.  The most important aim is to ensure students stay safe and calm and still experience some level of normality during this period of nationally enforced self-isolation.

    * Using Google Meet as our online lesson platform; instructions have been given to students so the new format of routine and expectations can be established.

    * Catch-up week continues for some students

    FOCUS / ARONGA

    FOCUS / ARONGA learning intentions:

    • We are FOCUSING on Rounding & Compensation strategy so that we can develop mental addition and subtraction skill.
    • We are FOCUSING on Algebra Like Terms so that we can develop the skill of adding and subtracting variables.
    • We are FOCUSING on integers so that we can continue to develop and consolidate our knowledge and skills in adding and subtracting both positive and negative integers.
    • (extra for expert)  We are FOCUSING on problem solving so that we can develop the skill of unpacking a mathematical problem and logical thinking, and get the chance to apply math strategies we have learnt.


    Learning Intentions: We are learning to (WALT)...

    • round up a number to a tidy number to make it easy to add or subtract, and then compensate (put back or take away) the rounded-up amount.
    • (maintenance) solve directed numbers operations so we can add, subtract, multiply and divide integers; both positive and negative integers
    • add and subtract variables in algebraic like terms operation 
    • (extra for expert) apply math strategies that we have learned, to solve math problems


    Success Criteria: I can/have...

    • mentally work out the answer of addition/subtraction problems using rounding & compensation strategy
    • confidently and accurately add, subtract, multiply and divide integers
    • add and subtract like-term variables
    • (extra for expert) creatively solve math problems
