  • Kia Ora Y10. This week, we move to our new context ‘Work Experience.’ We will join a workplace from 23rd to 27th November in week 7 of Term 4. We will use the tool ‘My Mahi’ which you can join by using the following code:

    We will have weekly assigned lessons on My Mahi and our C.V. and Cover letter for work experience. We also start contacting employers and finalising our workplace. This week, we will start by exploring My Mahi and learning to write email to the employers.

    Additionally, our focus will be on Reading and Writing to prepare ourselves for the easTTle Reading & Writing tests at the start of next term.. Remember to have your reading books with you in all English sessions. Also we will practice different genres of writing.

     Activities:

    -Joining and exploring My Mahi. 

    -Writing our goals for easTTle Reading and Writing tests.

    -Writing emails to the employers for work placement.

    We are exploring....... effective writing by applying our understanding about different genres of writing such as writing to describe, explain, narrate, inform, persuade etc. 

    We are exploring.......ways to convey our ideas on a range of topics for different purposes and audiences by understanding, constructing and applying content, language and text forms in our writing

    We are FOCUSED.....on being work-ready by understanding, discussing  and developing ideas & skills about/for work experience.

    We are FOCUSED..... on forming, connecting, constructing and conveying ideas on a range of topics through reading and writing.

    Success Criteria: (I can)

    -explore workplaces for my work experience and successfully secure a workplace for myself.

    -confidently develop work skills and use them in my work experience.

    -clearly make connections among my school work, work experience and the real world.

    -think critically about texts with understanding & confidence and recognise, understand and consider how texts are constructed for a range of purposes, audiences, and situations

    -construct texts (C.V., Cover Letter, Emails to employers, work experience reflection) that demonstrate an understanding of purpose and audience through deliberate choice of content, language, and text form and can seek  feedback to make changes to texts to improve clarity, meaning, and effect

    -use a wide range of verbal & written language features and an increasing range of vocabulary to communicate precise meaning & effect, to sustain interest and to achieve a sense of coherence when constructing texts
