Blues Music
This term we are going to be exploring and understanding one of the most important and influential style of music - Blues. We'll look at the history of the style and what kind of impact it has had on popular music. We'll learn how the music is constructed and have a go at playing the 12-bar-blues in groups. Later in the term we'll also look at the Blues Scale and have a go at improvising on our instruments too.
Learning intention:
Explore the history and musical elements of the Blues.Activities:
- Seeing what prior knowledge we have of Blues music
- Revisit some music theory that will help us with our understanding of Blues
- Listen to some examples of Blues music
- Look at the influence that the genre has had on popular music in the 20th and 21st centuries
Success criteria - you can/have:
- Name the notes of a major scale
- List some examples of famous Blues artists
- Explain the significance of Blues music, relating it to modern popular recording artists
