  • Kia ora and welcome to Year 9 Music. I hope you enjoy this year as you learn a range of musical skills and styles and continue to develop your work on an instrument.

    This year we will be covering a range of topics - from music history (including NZ Music in May for New Zealand Music Month), music theory, performance and more.

    In Term One our focus will be the musical elements, and we will be learning about these through the use of percussion, keyboard/fretboard instruments and composition


    Learning intention:

    Learn and apply knowledge of music theory (musical elements) through integration of practical skills.


    Activities:

    • Introduction to the musical elements
    • Rhythm activities - Rhythm Gym
    • Creating our own rhythms


    Success criteria - you can/have...

    • Name seven musical elements
    • Read simple rhythms and perform them
    • Create a few bars of rhythms and perform them using percussion or body percussion
